O MAAT foi distinguido internacionalmente desde a sua inauguração, integrando a lista dos 40 finalistas do Prémio Mies van der Rohe, sendo finalista do World Architecture Festival 2017, vencedor do The Design Prize 2017 — atribuído pelas revistas Designboom e Abitare com o patrocínio da cidade de Milão —, distinguido como Best Museum Architecture of the Year nos Leading Culture Destinations Awards e reconhecido com o Supreme Award nos Surface Design Awards 2018.

Inaugurated in October 2016 as part of the cultural patronage policy long adopted by the EDP Foundation, MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology is an international institution dedicated to promoting critical discourse and creative practice with a view to fostering new understandings of the historical present and a responsible commitment to the future.

Located on the riverfront in the historic Belém district of Lisbon, MAAT encompasses a thermal power plant built in 1908 – MAAT Central – and a contemporary building – MAAT Gallery – connected by a garden that extends along the Tagus River – MAAT Garden. In addition to its program of temporary exhibitions and activities, the museum also features permanent exhibitions, such as "The Electricity Factory at the Power Plant," or sculptures in its outdoor spaces.
